Microsoft announced on Thursday that it has hired Disney CIO Tony Scott to replace sacked CIO Stuart Scott. Tony Scott will head up the software giant's Global IT helpdesk. A post that will see him lead more than 4,000 staff and manage tech systems for Redmond's worldwide sales, marketing and services. He will also oversee the management of all of the firm's corporate systems and applications.

Scott joins Microsoft with more than 25 years in the industry. His posts have included Vice President of Operations at Bristol-Meyer Squibb Co and CTO of General Motors Corporation. His most recent post was as the CIO of the Mickey Mouse IT operations at Walt Disney.

Scott will report to Microsoft Chief Operating Officer Kevin Turner when he takes up his post next month.

Redmond fired Stuart Scott last year following an investigation into the "violation of company policies". Executives had refused at the time to comment further on the circumstances behind Scott's firing.
